Giving To Grow

Executive summary
Ghana Friends is a nonprofit charitable organization working to improve the lifestyle of Ghanaian communities in select regions through providing educational, technical, family support, water, and medical services. It is our vision to assist the people of Ghana in their quest for a more enriched life, and to expand our efforts to additional regions of the country.

The Organization
Ghana Friends was founded in 1998 and later incorporated in 2003 as a Not-For-Profit 501(c)3 type B Corporation. In 2007 the organization is making a strategic effort to concentrate on larger programs, develop a strong membership base, and develop relationships with donors. Our management team consists of the board of directors and officers of Ghana Friends working closely with the executive director. In addition, an operations director, marketing director, and administrative assistant is employed to keep us organized and focus on achieving our goals. Ultimately the work will be divided among committees and the executive director may need to add staff to the management team.

Services
Ghana Friends currently provides a variety of services to Ghanaian communities & villages. These include annual scholarships, computers and learning materials, and a bi-annual trip to Panafest. We are currently preparing to expand our services to include 'Student Classroom" construction, a 'Science & Technology Laboratory', and installation of the PlayPumps water station. Among the services planned for the future are: a process to create modular school facilities throughout Ghana fully equipped with classrooms, a science and technology laboratory, and water facilities.

The Market
As the world moves more towards globalization and boundless learning through the internet, we are targeting those communities that are currently not prepared to participate in those markets. We can assist under-developed communities educate themselves with access to educational resources and content. With Ghana celebrating it's 50th year of independence on March 6 2007, we are in a position to service the 10 regions in Ghana consisting of over 22 million people. Since Ghana Friends goal is to bring together the best in educational resources, the company plans to have a specific target market with management focusing on the 5-14 age group (38% of the population).

Financial Considerations
Our main strategy is the growth of active membership. An active membership base provides revenue from dues and also positions Ghana Friends as strong international provider of educational services to under-developed communities. We want to finance growth primarily through donations. We recognize that this means we will have to grow slower than we might have anticipated but that no borrowing is necessary.
